Preventative Car Maintenance

Today I wanted to discuss with you the vital importance of maintaining your vehicle’s service intervals, and using the correct fluids or parts when doing so. Most mechanical errors that occur with automobiles, especially the older ones are due to not doing the proper maintenance. Each vehicle has their own service recommendations of when to change, and the type of fluid or part to use. If these recommendations are followed then your vehicle will last much longer, and with fewer problems over the course of the vehicle’s life. You see as your vehicle is being driven the mechanical parts are slowly being worn down. With fresh oil in the vehicle the oil has great abilities to slow down this wear rate, but over time oil begins to break down, and looses these properties. Sludge formation could begin to happen if the fluid has not been changed for quite some time, but keeping up the service will prevent this from happening. Below is a picture of a severe case of someone not changing their oil. This wouldn’t happen unless it’s been a very long time, but it does happen.

Heat is the biggest reason for oil breakdown. That’s why engine oil is changed the most because it deals with the hottest parts. It’s also vital to keep up with your other fluid changes as well because they breakdown over time as well. When changing the fluid when needed keeps your engine clean, and able to last much longer. Below is an engine that over it’s life had it’s maintenance kept up.

That engine looks much better, and I’m sure it has much more miles on it rather than the first image. Now I’m going to provide some different websites of the importance of changing fluids on several components of your vehicle, and why it is important. https://www.meineke.com/blog/meineke-shares-top-five-reasons-oil-changes-save-vehicles/

This next link will discuss why it is important to change your transmission’s fluid because sludge could also form in the transmission as well.https://procarmechanics.com/the-importance-of-transmission-fluid/

The next article will be about why it’s important to change your engine’s coolant. Now sludge wouldn’t form in the coolant, but electrolysis could happen which causes your radiator to become it’s own battery which can be scary.https://www.cbac.com/media-center/blog/2014/january/the-importance-of-getting-a-coolant-flush/

The final fluid I will have an article about is the most important fluid to change for safety wise, but is the least serviced fluid.

The final part of this blog will be a YouTube video that discusses the reasons of keeping up your maintenance is of vital importance.
